This is actually a hardy yam, grown by the Chinese for its tuberous roots. It is a foliage vine, having variably heart-shaped, shining, dark green leaves, seven to nine ribbed of a clean, crisp texture. It will ascend to great heights, but should not be allowed to do so or the foliage will become sparse–it is good in a neglectable position such as over a fence or stump. The flowers are not showy, but last long and exhale a strong, fresh cinnamon fragrance which is delightful to inhale close-up, as it makes one sneeze.
