Also known as Lady-by-the-gate, denoting its best use which is to be naturalized, or used in the wild garden. This is the only species of the genus to be fragrant, and it has the fragrance of its family, the Pink Family, which is to say it is sweetly scented with an undertone of clove. It is a valuable addition to the wild garden as it blooms throughout the summer on 2 foot stems, being at its best for sight and scent in the evening. The foliage, when crushed and rubbed in the hands forms a lather-like soap, hence its botanical name. Zone 3.
