A noble plant growing up to six feet when conditions suit it–moist rich soil. It is said to have been the favorite of Elizabeth I, as a strewing herb for her private apartments because the leaves are pleasantly aromatic of wintergreen when trodden upon. The fragrance of the flowers is one of those which is best encountered on the air rather than close at hand. Zone 3.
